The growing Catalan industry
Catalan industry has experienced growth of 2.8% during the year 2023, despite international economic conditions and the slowdown in growth in the euro zone. This positive trend has been attributed to the good performance of exports and the moderation of energy prices
Several sectors on the rise
The Industrial Production Index by sector highlights the good performance of transport equipment, with a year-on-year increase of 15.5%. Growth has also been observed in pharmaceutical production (+5.7%), extractive industries (+5.3%), machinery and mechanical equipment (+3.8%) and electrical equipment (+2, 9%)
Exports on the rise
Catalan exports have shown a good performance, with an increase of 8.5% until the month of November. This figure contrasts with the decline of reference economies, such as Spain (-0.7%), the EU (-7%), France (-2.6%), Germany (-6.4%) and Italy ( -4.2%)
Positive employment data
Social Security affiliations have increased by 1.4% year-on-year, with a positive trend that has now lasted for 34 consecutive months. This has allowed industrial employment to be 2.7% above pre-pandemic levels. Currently, there are 496,800 members in the sector in Catalonia. On the other hand, industrial unemployment has decreased by a cumulative 5.3% year-on-year, standing at a level 12.1% lower than before the pandemic
