Safety device balance
During the Christmas holidays, a security device was carried out in the Old Nucleus of Olot, formed by the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Local Police. This device obtained positive results in reducing the feeling of insecurity in the city center. However, some incidents moved to other neighborhoods.
Identifications and actions taken
During this period, a total of 860 identifications were made and more than 100 acts were filed for possible criminal acts or situations.
Evaluation of the mayor of Olot
The mayor of Olot, Pep Berga, positively assessed the security device and emphasized that it has created a climate of greater security in the Old Town. He also announced that the Mossos d’Esquadra will continue to patrol the area until the creation of its own municipal police unit.
The new unit against incivility
Olot City Council plans to activate a new unit against incivility, which will be made up of three new agents and a corporal. This unit will have the purpose of combating incivility, illegal occupations and vandalism during the nights. The officers are still in training and are expected to join the municipal police force soon.
