A fund that collects the history of Banyolí theatre
Banyoles City Council has today received the transfer of the documentary collection of the actor Miquel Torrent, which contains more than 10,000 documents, almost 300 recordings of plays and more than 400 scene images that reflect a large part of the history of the Banyolí theater.
At the time of the delivery of the documentation, the mayor of Banyoles Miquel Noguer expressed his gratitude to Miquel Torrent “for this act of generosity and commitment to the city, which will allow us to preserve his archive of a dedicated life to the world of culture and theater in Banyoles”. Also, Miquel Noguer has highlighted that “with the transfer of the personal archive of the actors Joan Olivas and Enric Tubert we now have the entire history of theater in our city in the Regional Historical Archive”. For his part, Miquel Torrent expressed his satisfaction at being able to leave his collection “so that it is not lost and can be preserved and consulted” and remarked that “it will serve to better understand the history of Banyolí theater and its people “.
An actor, narrator, director, writer and document collector
Miquel Torrent i Pujolàs (Banyoles, 1959) has dedicated part of his social activity to the world of theater since he was young, working as an actor, narrator, director, writer and compiler of documents from the Banyolí theater. His personal fund, then, contains documentation related to the “banyolí theater”.
In a first digital block there are, among others, digitized records of Banyolin theatrical events dated between 1632 and 2021; 10,825 digitized documents of various documentation, drawings, programs, posters, photographs, old Banyoline magazines and articles from the Banyoline theatrical world of all times (mainly performances) and 278 recordings of plays performed in Banyoles between 1955 and 2020.
In paper format, there are: 405 photographs of plays and 1,625 documents (originals or copies) of programs, posters, magazines and newspapers that deal with the theatrical world of Banyol. Many of these documents are scanned. They are dated between 1632 and 2019. There are also some plays such as: La venjança del Martre (1871), by Pare Butinyà; Ernestina or the revenge of death (1924), by Monsèn Anton Figueras; Flirt…1934 (1934), by Isidre Oliveras; We are nothing (1954), by Antoni Garcia de Palau; Ecce-Homo The Passion of Banyoles (1962), by Frederic Corominas, and Una nit mot Mercantil (1988), by Farriol, Olivas and Garcia de Palau. The paper part occupies about 0.8 linear meters (8 boxes).
A fund that will be preserved in the Pla de l’Estany County Archive
Miquel Torrent’s documentary collection will be kept in deposit at the Pla de l’Estany Regional Archive, where it can be consulted for research, dissemination and education purposes. This archive is a public service whose purpose is the collection, conservation, arrangement and dissemination of the documentary heritage of the region. Among its funds, there are those of public administrations, those of entities and associations, those of companies and those of private individuals who have historical, cultural or social interest.
