The Mossos d’Esquadra warn about a new type of employment scam
The Mossos d’Esquadra have issued a warning to the public about a new model of labor scam that is circulating. Through social networks, the Catalan police have asked people to take extreme precautions and not fall into the trap of these fake emails. In these emails, scammers impersonate the Servicio Público de Empleo Estal (SEPE) and try to obtain personal information for fraudulent purposes.
The modus operandi of fraudsters
Scammers send emails to recipients, impersonating SEPE, and urge them to download a PDF document in order to learn the details of an alleged ongoing employment process. However, this document actually contains malware that can infect victims’ devices. Therefore, it is important not to follow the link or download the document.
Other recurring scams
This new type of employment scam is not the only one that has been detected recently. The Mossos d’Esquadra have also warned about other scams, such as those in which criminals impersonate banks or companies such as Endesa. In these cases, scammers try to obtain users’ personal information to gain access to their bank accounts and withdraw money from them.
It is important that citizens are alert and take the necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to these scams. It should be remembered that legitimate institutions and companies never ask for personal information through e-mails or other unsecured means.
