The works to extend the Barcelona tram along the Diagonal are progressing according to the planned schedule and it is expected that the new section between Glòries and Verdaguer squares will be operational during the second half of this 2024. This project, which has entailed some adjustments such as the modification of the inclined ramp on Calle Castillejos will cause some alterations this week to the Glòries section of the T4, T5 and T6 lines, that is, the TramBaix lines, in order to connect the existing lines with the new Diagonal section . This tram, as Mayor Collboni has declared, will not reach Plaça Francesc Macià until the next mandate.
Temporary changes to the Glòries stop of T4 and suspension of the service from T5 and T6 to La Farinera
As reported by Tram this Tuesday, the work to install the catenary-free system on a stretch of tracks in Glòries will require a temporary change in the location of the Glòries stop on the T4 line (Estació de Sant Adrià / Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica), which will be located in its future location next to the HUB Design Museum in Barcelona on March 8, 9 and 10. During these days, T5 (Glòries / Gorg) and T6 (Glòries / Sant Adrià Station) will start and end their route in La Farinera, leaving their last section to Glòries out of service. On Thursday, March 7, the service of lines T4, T5 and T6 will end at 10 p.m. to be able to carry out the first night work and, in addition, T4 will not operate during the morning of Sunday, March 10 due to the Marathon from Barcelona.
The reason for the changes: the implementation of the central lane with catenary and the commissioning of the Glòries electrical substation
These incidents are due to the work to implement the central lane with catenary and to put the electrical substation of Glòries into operation, actions that are part of phase 1 of the tramway connection works along Diagonal. In order to minimize the impact on users, these works have been planned to be carried out continuously over three days and 24 hours a day. The first actions will mean that the service of lines T4 and T5 ends at 10 pm on Thursday 7 March. Line T6, as usual, will end service at 10 p.m. On the 8th, the service will start at its usual time, at 5 am.
The most prominent changes
Between March 8 and 10, the T4 Glòries stop will change from its current location in front of les Encants to be located provisionally in its future location, south of the square and at the height of the HUB Museum of Barcelona Design. In this area of the square, the T4 line trains will run in both directions on a single track, the one on the sea side, which could change the frequency of passage. During this period, the new stop will not have information on the passage or operating vending machines and users will have to enter and exit on the platform on the sea side. To facilitate the previous operation, lines T5 and T6 will end the route at La Farinera, leaving its last section (La Farinera – Glòries) out of service.
Finally, on Sunday March 10, due to the celebration of the Barcelona Marathon, the T4 line will be closed from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During this morning it is recommended to use lines T5 and T6 for travel between Besòs and Glòries and the use of Metro line 4, with stations in Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica, Besòs, Selva de Mar and El Maresme | Forum.
