Context
The Sagrat Cor school in the Fort Pienc neighborhood of Barcelona has taken the decision to close the infant and primary stages from next school year due to the low birth rate. This school, with 84 years of history, argues that the decrease in the birth rate in recent years has caused the loss of the concert of three nursery and primary school units, which makes the continuity of the school unviable [[1]] (https://www.ara.cat/llengua/5-arguments-5-trucs-no-canviar-lengua-no-incomodi_1_4544047.html).
difficult decision
The center regrets having to make this difficult decision, as it involves the closure of an educational project that has welcomed many students from the city. However, measures have been taken to guarantee a school place for all students. An extraordinary schooling procedure has been established in collaboration with the Barcelona Education Consortium [[1]](https://www.ara.cat/llengua/5-arguments-5-trucs-no- change-language-no-incomodi_1_4544047.html).
Economic and human effort
The Sagrad Cor school has 27% of vulnerable students, which means an extraordinary effort of human and financial resources. Despite this, it has worked with the Christian School Foundation to offer families continuity in centers with a Christian ideology. Center workers are also being given priority in the Fundació Escola Cristiana job board
History of the school
The Sacred Heart School was founded in 1939 with the aim of meeting the educational needs of the Fort Pienc neighborhood of Barcelona, especially for girls who at that time were excluded from education. Since then, it has been an educational reference in the city [[1]](https://www.ara.cat/llengua/5-arguments-5-trucs-no-canviar-llengua-no-incomodi_1_4544047.html) .
