Dozens of farmers cut the A-2 and AP-2 in Soses
Dozens of farmers started this Monday, shortly after 9 am, a slow march along the A-2 from Alcarràs (Segrià) to the height of Soses, where they cut the road, right at the link with the AP-2.
From this point, the demonstrators tried to access the AP-2 to cut it, but a device of the Mossos d’Esquadra prevented them from doing so. Thus, the demonstrators got off the tractors and walked on a secondary dirt road until they were able to access the highway. After agreeing with the Mossos, the farmers make intermittent cuts in the direction of Zaragoza, which causes delays.
Farmers’ claims
Farmers are protesting for fair prices and against excessive bureaucracy in the agricultural sector. They demand that the Government listen to them and call them to a new meeting to discuss these issues. The farmers have set conditions to stop the protests, asking for a concrete response and actions from the Government.
Statements of the demonstrators
Jordi Larios, one of the spokespersons for the mobilization, has denounced that the Mossos d’Esquadra had initially prevented them from continuing with the protest, despite having the corresponding permits to block the roads. Larios has warned the Government that patience is running out and that in the future they may not be available when they are needed.
Context of the mobilizations
This farmer protest is the tenth in ten days. The Catalan agricultural sector has been mobilizing to demand fair prices and a reduction in bureaucracy. Farmers demand a response from the authorities and specific actions to improve the situation in the sector.
