The accident took place this afternoon and forced the road to be closed in both directions
A 56-year-old man from Flaçà lost his life this Monday after his vehicle collided head-on with another on the C-31, in the municipality of Ventalló, near the border with Viladamat. The driver of the other car was seriously injured and was evacuated to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona by the medical helicopter of the Medical Emergency System (SEM).
The fatal victim was traveling in the direction of Figueres when the collision occurred
The events occurred shortly before 1:15 p.m., when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the two vehicles collided on the road. The fatal victim was driving a passenger car in the direction of Figueres, while the seriously injured person was going in the direction of l’Escala. The strong impact caused both cars to be badly damaged and the driver of Flaçà to die on the spot.
Five fire crews and four police crews have worked in the area
Five crews from the Generalitat Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of the accident, and they had to remove the victim’s body from the interior of the vehicle. Four patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra have also arrived, regulating traffic and opening an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident. In addition, two EMS ambulances treated the seriously injured and took him to hospital. According to the Catalan Traffic Service, the crash has caused delays in the area and the C-31 has been closed in both directions, with alternative detours signposted.
