A historic agreement for Manlleu
After almost two decades of institutional deadlock, Manlleu City Council and the Ministry of the Interior of the Spanish government have reached an agreement for the land of the former Civil Guard barracks located in Torrent de la Borina. This agreement represents an important step for the future of the city and has been possible thanks to months of negotiations and joint work between different government teams and political colors.
A reason for satisfaction for the City Council
The approval of this agreement at the municipal meeting has been received with great satisfaction by ERC and PSC, the main architects of this pact. After a long legal battle that has delayed the process, an agreement has finally been formalized that will allow the demolition of the building and the distribution of the land for private uses and public facilities.
A solution to a complex conflict
The situation of the former Civil Guard barracks has been the subject of controversy for years, with a court ruling blocking its resolution and demanding financial compensation for the City Council. Now, thanks to this agreement, the State will cede part of the land to the Manlleuen council for the construction of public facilities, while the rest of the land will be used for residential and commercial purposes.
A happy ending for Manlleu
This agreement represents a happy ending for the city of Manlleu, which has struggled for years to find a solution to this conflict. The mayor, Àlex Garrido, has highlighted the importance of joint work between the different political parties and has thanked the collaboration of the Manlleu PSC in the resolution of this litigation. Now, with the definitive approval of the Municipal Urban Development Plan (POUM), the demolition of the old barracks can begin and give way to a new future for these lands.
