The mayor makes the decision to remove Aleix Estrada
The mayor of Manlleu, Àlex Garrido, has taken a strong decision to remove Aleix Estrada, former sports councilor of the council, from his powers delegated to the government team. This decision has been taken because of their positions towards feminism and equal rights.
Reactions from JuntsXCat and ERC Manlleu
The JuntsXCat party regrets that Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) has issued a statement without the knowledge of Aleix Estrada. In addition, JuntsXCat and ERC Manlleu will meet to restructure the delegated powers and appoint a new sports councillor.
Reasons for the decision
According to the press release issued by ERC Manlleu, Aleix Estrada has crossed red lines on issues such as equal rights and addressing sexist violence. These positions are considered incompatible with the ideological pillars and the action of justice, freedom and equality that govern the government of the city.
The case of the March plenary session
During the March plenum, Aleix Estrada was the only councilor who did not read a manifesto in favor of 8M, International Women’s Day. She argued that she was not a feminist and that she considered it hypocritical to join the reading of the manifesto just for fashion or because it touches. This position generated disagreement among other councilors of the City Council.
Manlleu Left Reactions
Esquerra Manlleu has issued a statement announcing the withdrawal of powers from Aleix Estrada before Junts Per Catalunya did. This action has generated a lack of trust between the two parties, who will have to work to resolve this situation.
