President Artur Mas prioritizes avoiding an electoral repeat
President Artur Mas is focusing his efforts on avoiding an electoral repeat in the Parliament of Catalonia. According to Mas, it is important to respect the result of the elections and build majorities and solutions so that it is operational. In an interview with TV3’s Els Matins, Mas stated that repeating elections would be a waste of time and money. However, he does not rule out the possibility of an electoral repeat if the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, does not reach an agreement with Esquerra Republicana. In this case, Mas proposes a joint platform between the sovereignist parties, especially Junts and Esquerra Republicana.
The goal of coming out on top in an electoral repeat
Artur Mas aims for independence to change the landscape of the last elections. Although he recognizes that achieving an absolute majority is complicated, Mas is betting that a hypothetical sovereignist platform will come first and be able to exchange the stability of Madrid with that of Catalonia. According to Mas, this would prevent the Generalitat from falling into a dependency and would allow deepening a reformist agenda. The goal is not to have an absolute majority, but to remain the first force to guarantee stability both in Catalonia and in Spain.
The mistakes of the past and the challenges of independence
Artur Mas recognizes that independence has lost its majority due to the repression of the Spanish state and also due to its own accumulated mistakes. But he admits that he was wrong to set a deadline of 18 months to achieve independence. Despite this, he highlights the importance of coming first in the next elections to avoid dependence and promote a reformist agenda.
