A thoughtful and committed speech

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, offered a reflective and committed speech during the awards ceremony for the Day of the Region, celebrated on May 2. In her words, she highlighted the diversity of the Madrid population, emphasizing the region’s commitment to Spain.

In contrast to previous speeches, Ayuso avoided direct criticism of the President of the Government, choosing to highlight the solidarity of the region in significant historical moments, such as the resistance against the French invasion in 1808, supportive attitudes in the face of terrorist attacks and natural disasters, and the defense of freedom as the driving force of the region.

Celebrating commitment and diversity

During the commemoration, Ayuso presented crosses of honor to various figures and groups, from the national police to medical residents, highlighting the importance of each individual in the construction of a ‘Spain forever’. The day also included the image of Ayuso reviewing the troops at Puerta del Sol, accompanied by traditional music from the capital.

Political profile and notable absences

The event had a lower political profile than in previous editions, with less tensions with the Government. The absence of the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, was notable, as was the criticism of the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, towards Pedro Sánchez.

Representatives of the central government were present, with the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, urging reflection on the current political climate. The absence of Feijóo, who had always attended the celebration since 2018, was notable, generating speculation about his whereabouts.
