The candidates for the 12-M elections have debated the need for better funding for Catalonia and have expressed different positions in relation to pacts and management in areas such as housing, health, security and education .

The candidates have expressed different positions in relation to Catalan funding. Jessica Albiach, of the commons, has defended the improvement of self-government and a fair financing system. Alejandro Fernández, of the PP, has stated that he wants to work to improve Catalan funding and has asked for respect from the pro-independence parties. Pere Aragonès, from ERC, has stated that defending Catalonia and better funding is an obligation, even though it may upset Moncloa. Josep Rull, from Junts, has said that it is an immediate priority to resolve the current underfunding. The CUP has criticized the pro-independence parties for their pacts with the PSC.

The candidates have expressed different positions in relation to the pacts. Salvador Illa has explicitly ruled out being president of the Generalitat with the support of the PP, but he does not rule out reaching specific agreements with this party on issues such as the language pact. Alejandro Fernández has stated that his party’s priority is to put an end to the pro-independence process. Pere Aragonès has opted for agreements based on the government programs of the different formations. Josep Rull has insisted on the importance of the sovereignist bloc having a majority to be able to make it operational. Laia Estrada has reproached the other pro-independence parties for their pacts with the PSC.

Josep Rull has criticized the increase in crime and has defended the competence of the Generalitat in the management of immigration. Ignacio Garriga has denounced the policies that have turned Catalonia into the region with the most illegal immigrants. Carlos Carrizosa has affirmed that separatism has been robbing citizens. Jessica Albiach and Laia Estrada have criticized the Aragonese government in different areas.
