Government priorities in matters of security

The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has recently emphasized that visibility and police security are fundamental for the Catalan executive. In a recent event dedicated to the graduation of new officers, Illa expressed his desire to build a more accessible and respected police force, away from the influence of partisan politics.

The challenge of the new police promotion

The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, appealed to the agents who join an increasingly complicated security context, but reminded them that they have the support of the public. In total, 1,325 new officers have been assigned to various security forces, with a majority belonging to the Mossos d’Esquadra. This addition represents an advance in gender parity, with 37.8% women, the highest figure recorded to date.

Commitment to women’s equality and safety

Illa stressed the importance of continuing to work for gender equality within the security forces, encouraging more women to access leadership positions. The president identified violence against women as one of the priorities to combat, along with other crimes such as multi-recidivism and drug trafficking.

The role of agents in the community

In his speech, Illa urged the new officers to establish a close relationship with citizens, especially those who are in vulnerable situations. Likewise, he expressed his commitment to continue expanding the police force to guarantee security as a national priority.

Contemporary challenges and preparation of agents

The director of the Public Security Institute of Catalonia, Marta Roca, warned about the complexity of current security challenges. Illa added that the new agents will witness the various facets of human nature, including both the most positive and the most difficult situations.

Emotional moments at graduation

The graduation ceremony followed tradition with the raising of the flag and the Reapers’ anthem, culminating in the throwing of caps in the air. The emotions were palpable, with agents crying tears of joy and celebrating with family and friends, marking the start of a new stage in their professional lives.

Looking to the future

With a firm commitment to security and equality, the Government of Catalonia is preparing to face future challenges. The new agents, with their training and determination, become a key piece in the construction of a safer and fairer society.
