A Vox advisor in the Extremadura Regional Government challenges the party’s leadership
There have been discrepancies within Vox and they are already beginning to materialize. The only advisor of those of Santiago Abascal that there is in the government of the Junta de Extremadura, Ignacio Higuero, disobeys the directive of the party leadership to break the coalitions with the PP and has announced that he will continue in office within the María executive Guardiola.
“You called me the advisor of Vox and now I am the advisor of the Extremadura Regional Government,” Higuero told the media in an appearance alongside the Extremaduran president, in which the politician has assured that he neither appears nor can defend the maneuver of the Vox leadership: “They changed the rules in the middle of the game and it doesn’t seem loyal or honest to me.”
The one who is a counselor for Forest Management and Rural World, who joined Vox in 2023 when he was appointed to a position, has now announced that he will leave the party.
The president of the Government of Extremadura keeps Higuero in office
At the hearing, Guardiola stated that he is keeping Higuero in office after he has “transmitted to him his firm will to continue serving the people of Extremadura at the head of the ministry”, a position that he described as a “brave and committed step”. .
Despite Vox’s “unilateral” break with its governability agreement, the president of Extremadura has stated that she will continue working as she has done until now, but alone, with the aim of achieving stability in the region.
“What Extremadurans deserve are explanations and guarantees, and so far Vox has not given any logical explanation, nor do I think it can give one, because it does not exist,” he also took the opportunity to criticize Guardiola.
Government alone with specific agreements
Guardiola has indicated that after this break with Vox, the sixty measures that were contemplated in the governance agreement “decay”, so he will focus on “the PP government program”, although he will always do so by “extending his hand to the rest of the groups to be able to reach agreements”.
In this sense, the Extremaduran president has contemplated governing with “specific agreements, but without giving up the essence of the program.” In this regard, she has stated that she is “not at all afraid or lazy” to achieve “constant agreements during the legislature”, but that she sees it as “a great challenge.”
Reactions and criticism
The leader of Vox in Brussels, Jorge Buxadé, has charged against the Extremaduran counselor, accusing him of “sticking to the armchair.” In an interview, Buxadé reproached Ignacio Higuero for not joining the “defense of the principles and policies” of the party, although he has expressed his “understanding of it from a personal point of view.”
For her part, President Guardiola has criticised Vox for its lack of explanations and guarantees, and has stated that she will continue to work alone to guarantee stability in the region.
The PP, which is the leading force in Extremadura along with the PSOE, has reached the presidency of the Board thanks to the governance agreement with Vox, despite having fewer votes than the socialists.
