ERC’s position in the investiture negotiations
The management of ERC continues to maintain a firm position in the negotiations for the investiture of the socialist candidate Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Internal sources of the party assure that it has moved to Illa and to Lluïsa Moret, president of the Diputació de Barcelona, that its investiture cannot depend on a fiscal consortium and that ERC continues to demand the exit from the common financing regime of the communities autonomous and the achievement of an economic concert.
Key meeting in the negotiations
This stance was conveyed during the meeting between Marta Rovira, general secretary of ERC, and Josep Maria Jové, president of the Esquerra group, with PSC representatives present. According to party sources, despite the discrepancies, it is recognized that the talks are progressing and there is a willingness to negotiate on the part of the PSC.
Likewise, during the meeting it was emphasized the need for the agreements reached not to be limited to what is already contemplated in the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia of 2006, but that commitments are required to reach the achievement of the economic concert.
Requirement to close the agreement in the short term
ERC maintains the pressure to close the agreement in the coming days and has emphasized that, in the event that a satisfactory pre-agreement is not reached, no consultation will be called on its bases. It has been recognized internally that there is a perception of having given in too much and the need for the PSOE to comply with the agreements is underlined.
Return of Marta Rovira to Parliament
Marta Rovira has returned to Parliament, after her stay in exile in Geneva. During his presence, he has held several meetings with the ERC deputies, but no significant details about the negotiations with the PSC have been released.
The meeting was brief and behind closed doors, and the end of the current month has been set as a deadline for the agreement.
Receipt and affirmations in Parliament
During her presence in Parliament, Marta Rovira was received by the president of the chamber and affirmed that her experience in exile had been positive and reaffirmed her commitment to continue fighting for what she considers just.
For his part, the President of the Parliament recalled the situation of the exile of members of the Generalitat and called to maintain a civic and democratic attitude in the face of this reality.
