Feijóo shows his rejection of the recognition of the Palestinian State
Alberto Núñez Feijóo has expressed his opposition to the recognition of the Palestinian State by Spain, marking significant differences with the position of President Sánchez. In an interview on Onda Cero, Feijóo stated that he considers that this decision puts tension in a country that has been invaded and that, in his opinion, it would be more harmful than beneficial for the Palestinian people and their noble cause.
Feijóo criticizes the possible repercussion of recognition
The PP leader has expressed concern about the negative impact that recognition of the Palestinian state could have, stating that it would empower Hamas, which he considers great nonsense. Furthermore, he regretted that Hamas had congratulated Spain, making it clear that he would not like to receive any congratulations from this organization.
Feijóo questions Sánchez’s ability to handle the situation
Feijóo has questioned President Sánchez’s ability to handle the situation, pointing out that he is not capable of bringing peace to his own government and doubting his ability to achieve peace in Palestine. Likewise, he has criticized Spain’s decision to break diplomatic relations with two states in one week, questioning whether all other countries are wrong except Mr Sánchez.
Feijóo accuses Sánchez of using barbarism for political purposes
The leader of the PP has accused Sánchez of using the conflict between Israel and Palestine for internal political purposes, calling it irresponsible to change the conversation about Spain’s internal affairs through the war and the nonsense that occurs in the region. Feijóo has regretted that his country is using barbarism to conduct internal politics, regardless of the external repercussions of these decisions.
Israel prohibits the Spanish Consulate in Jerusalem from providing consular services
In retaliation for the recognition of the Palestinian State, the Israeli Foreign Ministry has ordered the Spanish Consulate in Jerusalem to stop providing consular services as of June 1 to Palestinians residing in the occupied West Bank. This measure adds to the diplomatic tension between Spain and Israel, which has included criticism and threats from the Israeli Foreign Minister, Israel Katz.
