A Crucial Pact for Catalonia

Francesc-Marc Álvaro, prominent journalist and professor, and current ERC deputy in Congress, has shared his assessment of the strategic agreement between his party and the PSC to promote the figure of Salvador Illa as president of the Generalitat. In a message on the X platform (formerly Twitter), Álvaro not only defends the spirit of the pact but also highlights the urgency of joining the government to ensure that the promises are fulfilled.

Another Approach to Conflict

Álvaro analyzes in depth the implications of this agreement, underlining that it represents a significant turn in the socialist position towards the Catalonia-Spain conflict. He points out that Felipe Sánchez is now forced, for the first time since 2017, to approach the situation with a more strategic perspective instead of limiting himself to a short-term solution.

The Historical Context

According to Álvaro, this agreement can be a turning point: “The text accepts that the conflict not only persists, but demands from the authorities a more comprehensive approach that goes beyond the lines of particular parties.”

New Paradigms in Politics

The deputy highlights the importance of interpreting the media and the reactions of state leaders to understand the magnitude of the new political dynamics. “The landscape is changing in a way that is obvious to everyone, including right-wing heavyweights and state officials,” he says.

Risk of Uncertainty

Despite recognizing the value of the agreement, Álvaro warns that no pact in politics is without uncertainties. Factors such as the weather or unexpected events can influence its viability, reaffirming that “the policy requires a constant and thorough effort.”

A Controversial Conductor

Álvaro takes into account the difficulties that Salvador Illa represents for independence. However, he insists that it is vital to seek agreements with those with whom there are disagreements. “We cannot avoid that alliances are necessary, even with those who are not of our group,” he comments.

What is the Next Industry?

Álvaro also contemplates the prospect of a possible repeat election if the agreement fails. “Proposing this possibility is completely valid, but it must be borne in mind that the consequences could be very negative for Catalan politics and especially for ERC”, he reflects.

Impact of the Agreement

We argue that ERC’s entry into government would be the best option to ensure that its ideas are properly implemented, arguing that its contribution in this context dimensions the role of socialists in a wider program that would be beneficial to society Catalan

A New Stage

Álvaro concludes that this pact represents not only an opportunity for self-government but also a step towards the construction of a new sovereignty for Catalonia. In his words, “We must take advantage of the arithmetic of the recent electoral result to redefine our path and make our voice heard in the political world.”
