Accusations against Ramón Paso
The Madrid Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation against the playwright Ramón Paso for alleged sexual crimes committed against 14 women between the ages of 18 and 28. According to the complaint, the 48-year-old playwright sought out young women in precarious economic situations, from broken families or from other provinces, and without professional or sexual experience, with the hope of being actresses.
It is stated that Paso recruited them through castings, but his interest was not exclusively professional. The complaint describes a context of psychological violence, threats, humiliation and situations that generated conflicts between the actresses, and even incitement to consume alcohol during rehearsals and outings.
In addition, it is noted that he abused his position as director to take sexual advantage of women, publishing casting offers that required ‘young, childish-looking women’ to play roles with ‘sexy, daring, cunning or uninhibited’ characteristics.
Details of the alleged crimes
The Prosecutor’s Office points to non-consensual sexual relations, including vaginal, anal and oral practices, and in some cases, with direct violence and intimidation. Cases of physical injuries, such as anal tears and vaginal infections, caused by Paso’s behavior, are mentioned.
The complaint details that there was always a ‘sexual context’ in which he forced women to consume alcohol, humiliated them with derogatory names, touched them inappropriately during rehearsals, and even forced them to go to the gynecologist with someone they trusted. Some women were forced to take the morning after pill, since Paso never used condoms.
Manipulation strategy
Paso’s strategy was to obtain personal information from the women during the interviews, including details about their economic situation, family support, personal ties in Madrid, and then move on to questions of a sexual nature. Once in the company, he isolated them from the rest, generated discomfort among the actresses and gradually manipulated them, assuring them that he would know how to get the best out of them and show that he was the master.
Later, he invited them to his house under different pretexts, where he subjected them to situations of sexual abuse. Those who refused their demands were punished, publicly humiliated or disadvantaged in other castings. Furthermore, he demanded absolute commitment, even urging them to abandon their studies and partners.
Psychological impact
The complaint concludes that these actions have caused significant psychological harm to the victims, including post-traumatic stress and varying levels of anxiety, which have required psychological therapy.
