A new project to repeal the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Law in Argentina
A group of deputies from the La Libertad Avanza party, led by Argentine president Javier Milei, has presented a project to repeal the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Law in Argentina, which was approved in 2020. This project, presented last Monday, February 5 , seeks to reform the Penal Code to impose prison sentences on both women who decide to terminate their pregnancy and doctors who perform the procedure [[1]](https://contenttu.com/blog/seo/redaccion-seo- guide-to-write-articles-that-conquer-your-users-and-google).
Penalties proposed for abortion without consent and in case of death of the pregnant woman
According to Milei’s project, penalties of three to ten years in prison would be established for those who perform an abortion without the woman’s consent, and these penalties would be raised to 15 years if the procedure results in the death of the pregnant woman. In addition, a sentence of one to four years in prison is proposed for those who perform an abortion with the woman’s consent, and this sentence could reach six years in the event of the death of the pregnant woman. In addition to prison sentences, doctors, surgeons, midwives and pharmacists who perform or collaborate in an abortion are subject to disqualification for double the length of the sentence [[1]](https://contenttu.com/blog /seo/redaccion-seo-guide-to-write-articles-that-conquer-your-users-and-google).
Proposed penalties for women who decide to abort
The project also contemplates penalties of one to three years in prison for women who decide to terminate their pregnancy. However, it is established that the judge may exempt the woman from the sentence depending on the reasons that led her to commit the crime, her subsequent attitude and the nature of the fact [[1]](https://contenttu.com /blog/seo/redaccion-seo-guide-to-write-articles-that-conquer-your-users-and-google).
Reactions and project context
The project presented by Milei will be sent to four parliamentary commissions for analysis and processing. It should be noted that this proposal was announced shortly before Milei’s visit to the Vatican to meet with the Pope. The bond between Milei and the Supreme Pontiff has been marked by mistrust and has been the subject of controversy, since during the electoral campaign, the Argentine president described him as the ‘representative of evil on Earth’ [[1]](https ://contenttu.com/blog/seo/redaccion-seo-guia-para-ecripta-articulos-que-conquisten-a-tus-usuarios-y-a-google).
