Changes in witness statements
Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who is investigating Pedro Sánchez’s wife for alleged crimes of corruption in business in the private sector and influence peddling, has modified the date of the statement of the five witnesses who were initially summoned for this Thursday, 6 of June Now, the appointment has been postponed to next Sunday, June 16 from 12:00 p.m. However, the judge has informed that, as he is on duty that day, he cannot guarantee the exact time when the statements will be made. Although it is uncommon to hold a hearing on a Sunday, the law allows all days to be used to carry out the judicial process.
The postponement requested by Begoña Gómez’s lawyer
Begoña Gómez’s lawyer, Antonio Camacho, requested the postponement of the appointment arguing that he had another trial at the National Court on the same day, specifically for the Nummaria tax fraud case. In response to this request, Judge Peinado has called the witnesses for June 16. Among the witnesses cited are the chief executive officer (CEO) of Red.es, David Cierco; the former director general of Red.es, Alberto Martínez Lacambra; the economist and lawyer of Innova Next SL, Luis Antonio Martín Bernardos; the director of legal advice in Red.es, Ignacio Espejo Saavedra Hernández; and Luis Prieto Cuerdo, Director of Economy of Red.es, a public entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation.
The denunciation of Clean Hands
The judge’s decision to initiate proceedings was opposed by the Prosecutor’s Office, which filed an appeal before the Madrid Court asking for the case to be closed. However, the appeal was rejected and the Provincial Court of Madrid endorsed the investigation in Begoña Gómez. The Manos Limpias union accuses Gómez of acting for the benefit of businessmen who presented themselves at public tenders, using her status as the wife of the president of the Spanish government. According to the union, there is enough evidence to justify the investigation.
Clean Hands support for reporting
The Manos Limpias union supported its complaint based on information published by various media. In a press release, the general secretary of Manos Limpias, Miguel Bernad, stated that the accusations were based on information from the media and that, if the news were not true, the media should take responsibility for its veracity .
