The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) promotes a morphological and ecological recovery project
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has launched a tender for technical assistance in the study of alternatives aimed at the morphological and ecological recovery of the Francolí river, with a budget close to 100,000 euros. This project will focus on the river sections that run through Montblanc and l’Espluga de Francolí, areas that were affected by the floods of October 2019 and that, over time, have been mainly used for agricultural purposes, as reported the ACA. The main objective is to carry out a diagnosis of these sections to minimize the impact of future floods and carry out actions to naturalize them.
Project Details and Objectives
The period of execution of the works, which will include the topographic survey for hydraulic modelling, the geomorphological study, the environmental survey of species of flora and fauna, as well as the cartographic approach to the forest biomass liable to be dragged in the upper part of the basin and tributaries, will extend for twelve months from the awarding and signing of the contract. From here, action alternatives will be considered to maintain and acquire the fluvial space with measures to naturalize the riverbed, such as the possible acquisition of land, geomorphological correction, improvement and restoration of habitats, as well as accounting with public use.
Public Participation and Social Consensus
Finally, the design and start of the public participation process will be carried out to present and debate the alternatives that are proposed, with the aim of seeking social and territorial consensus. This initiative seeks to guarantee the sustainability and preservation of the Francolí River, contributing to the protection of the environment and the well-being of local communities.
