The president of the Generalitat demands compliance with the investiture agreements
The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has asked the president of the central government, Pedro Sánchez, to forgive the part of the regional liquidity fund (FLA) destined for Catalonia, as stipulated in the investment agreement with ERC . This demand remains despite the decision not to approve the general budgets of the State for the year 2024.
In an interview with RNE, Aragonès stated that Sánchez must comply with the investiture agreements and that the condonation of the FLA does not require the approval of the State’s general budgets. The obligation to comply with the agreements already signed is fundamental, and every day that passes without the central government assuming part of the Catalan FLA, the citizens of Catalonia are paying interest.
Debt forgiveness must be a priority
Aragonès has emphasized the importance of debt forgiveness occurring as soon as possible, regardless of the elections that will be held on May 12. Although he has not set a specific date, the president of the Generalitat has stressed that this remission must be a priority for the central government.
Response to accusations of coordination with the PSC
Aragonès has also responded to Junts’ accusations about an alleged coordination with the PSC to advance the elections in Catalonia. He flatly denied this claim and assured that he did not inform the PSC about the election call. The decision to call elections was made after the budgets of the Generalitat were overturned by the Parliament of Catalonia.
Aragonès has affirmed that Catalonia cannot waste any more time with extended budgets and has defended the calling of elections as a way of giving continuity to the legislature and making progress in solving the country’s problems.
