The Minister of Health presents the ‘Healthy companies of the Balearic Islands’ program

The Minister of Health, Manuela García Romero, together with the general directors of Work and Occupational Health and of Public Health, Catalina Cabrer and Antònia Esteban, have presented the program ‘Healthy companies of the Balearic Islands’. This program aims to transform the business fabric of the territory into an environment that promotes health, well-being and sustainability.

The ‘Healthy Companies of the Balearic Islands’ program is promoted by the Ministry of Business, Employment and Energy, through the Balearic Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IBASSAL), and the Ministry of Health. This plan contains several lines of action to achieve this transformation in the companies of the Balearic Islands.

The action plan for the implementation of the healthy business model

Companies interested in participating in the program will draw up an action plan for the implementation of the healthy business model. This plan will include a pre-diagnosis, which will outline a process for continuous improvement of the health, well-being and sustainability of staff and clients. In addition, actions related to several proposed thematic axes will be incorporated.

Each company will have the opportunity to plan how to implement the healthy company model, based on its own needs and areas of intervention. This will allow the program to be adapted to the specific characteristics and objectives of each company.

The thematic axes of the program

The ‘Healthy companies of the Balearic Islands’ program includes several thematic axes that cover different subjects related to health and well-being. These thematic axes are: security; ergonomics; sustainable and active mobility and road safety; healthy eating; physical activity; prevention of addictions; mental health promotion; work, personal and family reconciliation; labor relations, command and leadership styles; motivation at work; recreation; sustainability, and others related to health.

Support for companies and training for the implementation of the model

The public bodies involved in the program will support companies, especially the smaller ones, to gradually join the program. In addition, training and advice for the implementation of this model will be offered to companies that wish to transform into healthy companies.

It should be noted that organizations such as the World Health Organization, the European Commission or the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work recommend the introduction of health promotion at work in companies and institutions. These measures bring competitive advantages, such as improving productivity and reducing absenteeism and occupational accidents.

During the presentation of the program, the Minister of Health, Manuela García, highlighted the Government’s commitment to work in health from the prevention, promotion and promotion of healthy lifestyles. García has encouraged employers to invest and reorient public and business policies towards health, since a healthy company can retain workers, reduce healthcare costs and become a competitive advantage.

The procedure to join the program

The procedure for incorporation into the ‘Healthy companies of the Balearic Islands’ program can begin at the initiative of the company, the working staff or the occupational risk prevention services (PRL). It consists of the creation of a Healthy Business Commission (CES), the analysis and declaration of compliance with the PRL, a two-year written commitment to the preparation, development and evaluation of a action plan, a diagnosis in accordance with the healthy business model and the development of an action plan.

Creation of a regional network of healthy companies and organizations

The ‘Healthy companies of the Balearic Islands’ program proposes the creation of a regional network of healthy companies and organizations. In addition, membership of the national and European network will be encouraged. Regular calls will also be organized to identify, promote and recognize good practices in this area.
