Distribution of power in the General Council of the Judiciary
PP and PSOE have reached an agreement to renew the General Council of the Judiciary in Spain. Both parties have claimed ten members each, but this time no Catalan or Basque representation has been included.
Absence of Catalan and Basque quota
Despite the bipartisanship that existed in Spain until 2015, there had always been Catalan and Basque representation in the General Council of the Judiciary. However, on this occasion this fee has not been included.
Opinions on the absence of Basques and Catalans
Alfons López Tena, former deputy in the Parliament and former member of the General Council of the Judiciary, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the absence of representation of Basques and Catalans in the new CGPJ. He considers that it is important that there are quotas that represent minorities in this governing body of the Spanish justice system.
Other bodies pending renewal
In addition to the General Council of the Judiciary, other bodies such as the Bank of Spain, the CNMC, the CNMV and RTVE are also pending renewal. PSOE and PP will have to continue negotiating to reach agreements in these organizations.
