Argentine President Javier Milei criticizes the President of the Spanish Government Pedro Sánchez

The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, has once again expressed his criticism of the president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, in an interview for Argentine television. Milei has called Sánchez a ‘coward’ and compared his model of freedom of expression to that of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. According to Milei, Sánchez has sent his ministers to insult him and has used women to attack him, calling him a misogynist. Furthermore, he has stated that Sánchez is advancing freedom of expression and is applying the same model as Maduro.

Milei’s criticism of Sánchez’s statements on media regulation

Milei has also criticized Sánchez’s statements about media regulation. According to the Argentine president, Sánchez has expressed his support for the regulation of ‘pseudo media’ that spread hoaxes and misinformation. Milei has pointed out that these media are financed in part by far-right coalition governments between the Popular Party and Vox, using public money. Milei has warned of the danger this represents for democracy and has questioned what would happen if he did the same in Argentina.

Diplomatic crisis between Argentina and Spain

These new criticisms from Milei add to the diplomatic crisis between Argentina and Spain. The Spanish government’s decision to recall its ambassador in Buenos Aires after Milei’s comments about President Sánchez’s wife has generated tensions between both countries. Milei has described Sánchez as a ‘Kirchnerist without good manners’ and the Spanish socialists have responded by criticizing Milei in their campaign video for the European elections. The dispute continues and has generated a series of episodes between both political leaders.
