The Catalan Water Agency puts out to tender technical assistance for the study of alternatives aimed at the morphological and ecological recovery of the Francolí river
The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has tendered technical assistance for the study of alternatives aimed at the morphological and ecological recovery of the Francolí river, with a tender budget close to 100,000 euros. This project will focus on the river sections that run through Montblanc and l’Espluga de Francolí, which were damaged following the rains of October 2019 and which have been occupied, mainly, for agricultural uses, as reported by the ‘ACA. The aim of this study is to carry out a diagnosis in these sections to minimize the effect of future floods and carry out actions to naturalize them.
Work to be done
The work, which will be carried out within a period of twelve months from the awarding and signing of the contract, will include the following tasks:
Collection of information
All the information of the sections subject to the study will be collected, including the topographic survey for hydraulic modeling, the geomorphological study (historical and current), the environmental survey of flora and fauna species, and the cartographic approach to the forest biomass liable to be dragged to the upper part of the basin and tributaries.
Action proposals
Based on the information collected, alternative actions will be considered to maintain and acquire the fluvial space, through measures to naturalize the riverbed. This will include the possible acquisition of land, geomorphological correction, habitat improvement and restoration, and compatibility with public use.
Public participation
With the aim of seeking social and territorial consensus, the design and start of the public participation process will be carried out to present and debate the alternatives that are proposed.
conclusion
The Catalan Water Agency has launched a project to study alternatives aimed at the morphological and ecological recovery of the Francolí River. This study aims to minimize the effects of future floods and naturalize the river sections that were damaged following the floods of October 2019. The project includes the collection of information, the proposal of actions and public participation to seek social and territorial consensus. With these actions, the aim is to preserve and improve the fluvial space of the Francolí River, guaranteeing its morphological and ecological recovery.
