The position of the Commons towards Hard Rock

It is well known that the Commons oppose the Hard Rock project, but recently Jéssica Albiach has expressed her concern forcefully. During a meeting, Ella Albiach made reference to an alleged secret pact between President Pere Aragonès and the opposition leader Salvador Illa to promote this project. According to Albiach, this situation generates concern, since she considers that it is not the right path to follow. According to her, during a failed budget negotiation, the president of the Generalitat assured her that she should not worry, but later the PSC raised the issue again, and ERC accepted all the conditions imposed by them.

Concerns about the impact of Hard Rock

The Commons argue that the Hard Rock project would imply imposing on Tarragona an economic model based on mass tourism, which would lead to an increase in activities related to mafias, insecurity and gambling.

Electoral situation and prospects

Recently published polls place the Commons in a delicate position, with projections of around 5 deputies, which would represent a significant electoral decline. Despite this, Jéssica Albiach downplays the importance of the surveys, highlighting that in other surveys she maintains similar results. The Commons candidate insists on the importance of forming a progressive government, highlighting the need for a left-wing tripartite in Catalonia.

Position regarding possible pacts

Albiach has made it clear that he considers a progressive government positive, although he recognizes that there are programmatic discrepancies with the PSC. Likewise, he has urged to avoid an electoral repetition, asking progressive forces to reflect on the similarity of their policies with the proposals of the right. In this sense, he has pointed out the unprecedented position of the PSC, which in his opinion is located further to the right than the PSOE.

Rejection of pacts with the PP

Albiach has ruled out any possibility of an agreement with Albert Fernández’s PP, emphasizing that not even the PP itself has shown interest in this option. Furthermore, he has questioned Illa’s proposal to form a ‘transversal’ government, warning that this formula would open the door of the Generalitat to the right.
