The CUP shows its discomfort with the alliance with the PSC

The CUP has expressed its dissatisfaction with the Government’s alliance with the PSC. This is the only formation, apart from Esquerra, that has closed an agreement with the executive regarding the budgets. The CUP invites the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, to leave behind a ‘lost legislature’.

The deputy and negotiator of the cupaires with the Government, Xavier Pellicer, has regretted in the debate in Parliament that the anti-capitalists “stuck to the table” of the negotiation to try to reach an agreement on minimums for the accounts. Pellicer emphasized that they prioritized the needs of the country over the preferences of the CUP, but they did not manage to get away with it.

Criticism of the agreement with the PSC

Pellicer has criticized the agreement reached between the executive and the Catalan socialists. According to him, they don’t know if Mr. Pedro Sánchez in Catalonia is Mr. Illa or Pere Aragonès himself. The Cupaire deputy has demanded a change to forge majorities in the street and work to promote them in Parliament. He has made it clear that the CUP cannot be part of an agreement with the presence of the PSC, since they consider that they represent two antagonistic models.

Refusal to confront the powerful

The CUP has regretted that the Government has given up on confronting the powerful over the macrocasino project in Vila-seca. According to the cupaires, the executive of Aragonès has preferred to remain in power, even if he is acting as a chameleon, prioritizing adding majorities and triangulating Catalonia, the State and Barcelona. Pellicer has stated that the country has already lost, with or without budgets.

Pulling irony with Salvador Illa

Pellicer used irony to refer to Salvador Illa, first secretary of the PSC. He congratulated Illa for going from ‘not painting anything’ in February 2021 to ‘being at the absolute center’ in 2024, and placed it further to the right than the PSOE. Pellicer believes that Aragonès is responsible for this, since he has given up on granting sovereignty to Parliament after the pact with the Socialists.
