The CUP proposes the creation of the Equal Treatment and Non-discrimination Office
The CUP wants to promote a new service in the Garrotxa region in the field of equality and non-discrimination. The party proposes the creation of the Office of Equal Treatment and Non-discrimination in La Garrotxa, a service whose aim will be to collect complaints and situations related to discrimination of gender, age, sexual orientation and others.
According to the spokesperson of the CUP, Jordi Gasulla, this office will be a gateway for people who have suffered discrimination and need a place of trust where they can receive advice and support. The office will also coordinate with other existing services to follow up on complaints.
The CUP proposal and its implementation
The CUP proposes the creation of this office in the Garrotxa region, following the example of a similar body that has already existed in Barcelona since 2022. The party considers that each region should have its own service of equality and non-discrimination.
To achieve this goal, the CUP asks that Olot lead the creation of the office in the region, with the support of the Social Action Consortium. This will allow complaints to be coordinated and guarantee better attention to cases of discrimination.
The objectives and functions of the Office of Equal Treatment and Non-discrimination
The office proposed by the CUP will have three main axes of action: prevention, coordination and guarantee. Unlike police services such as the Mossos d’Esquadra, this office will not be limited to criminal cases, but will also deal with situations of administrative offences.
The CUP will present the proposal for the creation of the office to the Olot City Council at the next municipal meeting. It is hoped that this initiative will have the support of the other political parties in order to start working on its implementation.
In short, the CUP wants to promote a new service in the Garrotxa region to promote equality and non-discrimination. With the creation of the Office of Equal Treatment and Non-discrimination, it seeks to collect complaints and situations related to discrimination of gender, age, sexual orientation and others. This office will aim to provide advice and support to affected people and coordinate with other services to follow up on complaints. The CUP proposal seeks for each county to have its own equality and non-discrimination service, and Olot will lead the creation of the office in the Garrotxa county. It is expected that this initiative will be approved and start working soon.
