The tweet that lit up the networks
The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, has generated controversy on social networks with a tweet about the PP candidate for the European elections, Dolors Montserrat. In her message, the socialist minister has expressed her opinion on Montserrat’s disappearance and her party’s alleged lack of trust in her.
In the tweet, Puente shared a montage that shows Montserrat’s photo inside a poster from the Alerta Desaparecidos association. The minister ironically commented on the situation, pointing out that if someone is chosen to head a list, it is assumed that they are the best they have. However, if that person is hidden, he or she demonstrates a lack of trust on the part of the party. Puente concluded his message by wondering what the other candidates will be like if Montserrat is considered the best option.
The Missing Alert response
The Disappearance Alert association responded to Puente’s tweet, reminding him that behind the disappearance alerts there are sad and dramatic stories. The organization reproached the minister for spreading a false poster for political purposes and asked him to show a real image of a missing person as a show of solidarity.
The support of Roberta Metsola
The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, expressed her support for the PP candidate in the European elections. Metsola highlighted Montserrat’s role in defending the rule of law, promoting the agricultural sector and her contribution to health in the European Union. The Popular Party also reported that Metsola published a video on social networks showing her support for Montserrat and valuing her work in the European Parliament.
