The Political Opinion Barometer of Catalonia
The Center for Opinion Studies (CEO) published last week the first Political Opinion Barometer of the year 2024. This survey, carried out before the announcement of early elections and the approval of the law of amnesty in Congress, provides an insight into the electoral preferences of Catalans.
Survey results
According to the Barometer, the PSC is the party that would win the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia, with a margin of 35-42 deputies. This result would place them ahead of ERC (26-32 deputies) and Junts (24-29 deputies).
One of the interesting aspects of the survey is the revelation that approximately half of Catalan men have changed parties in several elections to the Parliament of Catalonia. This means that they have not always voted for the same political party. On the other hand, women show some loyalty to political parties, but there is also a significant percentage who have changed parties in some elections.
With regard to the age of voters, the survey shows that those over 64 are the age group that has most maintained loyalty to the same party or political space in the various parliamentary elections. On the other hand, in other age groups, more than half of the respondents admit that they have changed party on some occasion.
Withholding vote
The survey also reveals the vote retention rate of the various parties. The Commons and the CUP are the parties with the highest rates of vote retention, with 86% of voters for Jéssica Albiach’s candidacy and 81% of CUP supporters who would vote for them again. On the other hand, C’s and Vox are the parties with the lowest vote retention rate.
In summary, the Barometer of Political Opinion of Catalonia reveals changes in the electoral preferences of Catalans, with the PSC leading the polls and with a high rate of party switching in several elections.
