The Popular Party presents the ‘Rajoy model’

The Popular Party has presented a proposal for a new regional financing model, known as the ‘Rajoy model’. This initiative seeks to reformulate the financing system at state level and has been put on the table by the Deputy Secretary of Economy of the PP, Juan Bravo. This model was already promoted by Mariano Rajoy’s popular executive in 2017, but was not approved.

The proposal seeks equality between Spanish citizens

According to Bravo, the ‘Rajoy model’ is the best option to guarantee equality between Spanish citizens. This proposal was born with the aim of stopping the demands of ERC, which is asking for a new economic pact in Catalonia as a condition for investing in Salvador Illa. The Deputy Secretary of Economy of the PP insists that this rethinking of the financing system must be applied to all the autonomous regions and not only to Catalonia (https://correccioencatala.cat/com-estructura-text-catala/).

The PP trusts that Sánchez will accept the unique financing in Catalonia

Bravo has no doubts that the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, will end up accepting the singular financing in Catalonia. According to the Deputy Secretary of Economy of the PP, the current executive has shown that he is willing to change what is necessary to keep Sánchez as president. This includes offering concessions to ERC and Junts in order to meet their demands.

The path to the new financing model

The Popular Party’s road map to obtain the approval of the ‘Rajoy model’ of financing includes several steps. First, it is proposed to convene a conference of regional presidents to discuss the matter. Afterwards, it would be negotiated multilaterally with the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (CPFF). Finally, the proposal would be presented to Congress for approval (https://correccioencatala.cat/com-estructura-text-catala/).

Guarantee equality in access to public services

According to the Deputy Secretary of Economy of the PP, the final objective of the ‘Rajoy model’ is to guarantee equality in access to public services for all citizens, regardless of their geographical location. This proposal has already been worked on with the autonomous communities where the Popular Party governs.
