The mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia-Albiol, has once again put the families of the Venus block in the Mina neighborhood at the center of the debate. This collective, made up of more than 200 families, many of them impoverished, has been fighting for years to have a dignified exit from the building that the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has confirmed must be ‘tear down This situation has generated great concern and a large pending file on how the rehousing of the inhabitants of the block will take place.

The proposal of the general secretary of Social Rights

In this context, the general secretary of Social Rights, Oriol Amorós, has raised the possibility that the city of Badalona can assume the rehousing of some of those affected by the situation at the Mine. This proposal has generated a negative response from the mayor Xavier Garcia-Albiol, who has rejected this possibility and has suggested other locations for those affected.

The current situation of families

Meanwhile, the families of the Venus block continue to wait for a solution. The two most common options are rehousing at the expense of the consortium that administers the neighborhood, made up of the Government, the councils of Barcelona and Sant Adrià del Besòs and the Provincial Council of Barcelona, or financial compensation. So far, there are families who have opted for financial compensation and others who claim to be part of the rehousing in public flats in the Badaloní territory. Demolition of the building is scheduled for 2028.
