Salvador Illa rejects an agreement with Together for Catalonia
The socialist candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has made it clear that there will be no pact with Together for Catalonia after the 12-M elections. In a conference organized by the Barcelona Economic Society of Friends of the Country, Illa stated that there are incompatible logics between his party and Together for Catalonia. Although at first he had opened the door to a possible agreement if Juntos did not prioritize independence, Illa has changed his mind and has highlighted that they are betting on the blockade, while he is ready to move forward.
Junts excludes itself from a possible agreement
Salvador Illa considers that Junts has excluded itself from any possibility of agreement due to its demands on independence and the statements of Carles Puigdemont. Illa has defended that he has always maintained respect for Puigdemont and has referred to him as ‘former president, MEP and candidate’. Furthermore, he has ruled out that the popular support them in a possible investiture due to the attitude they have shown.
Illa rules out making an independentist president
Salvador Illa has made it clear that he does not see himself making an independence candidate president. Although he has been asked if the PSOE could pressure him in this regard to guarantee stability in Madrid, Illa has stated that the decision will be made in Catalonia. Furthermore, he has highlighted that it is not very Catalan to agree on the Government of Catalonia with Madrid and has expressed his surprise at the idea that those who defend independence consider governing Catalonia from Madrid.
