Disagreement in the parliamentary debate
In an intense confrontation in the Congress of Deputies, the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, and the popular deputy, Jaime Miguel de los Santos, faced each other. During the debate, the minister criticized the deputy for using a question about young people and feminism to accuse the Government of corrupt acts and to make derogatory comments about the president’s wife.
Opposite postures
Jaime Miguel de los Santos questioned Redondo about the disconnection of young people with the feminist movement, to which the minister responded without satisfying the deputy, generating an increase in tension with accusations against the Government for failing to protect vulnerable women.
Strong response
Faced with the accusations, the minister rejected the deputy’s statements as a reflection of reactionary machismo and denialism. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of addressing gender violence and the need to join forces to combat it, especially at critical moments such as the recent murders of women and children.
