More than 1,000 activists and protesters retaliated

According to the organization Alerta Solidaria, a total of 1,168 activists and protesters have been retaliated against for defending the independence of Catalonia. However, of this group, 419 of them have requested amnesty. These figures have been recently updated and it is expected that the Congress of Deputies will approve the amnesty law for the events of the Procés.

Criminal cases filed for almost 51% of those retaliated against

Of the more than 1,000 retaliated against, approximately 51% have had their criminal cases archived. In addition, 152 people have been acquitted by judges and courts in the cases tried. It is important to note that these figures include the 12 CDR accused of terrorism in Operation Judas, but not the pro-independence politicians.

Monitoring the application of the amnesty law

Solidarity Alert has announced that it will monitor the application of the amnesty law for the events of 1-O. However, they warn that this law has not advanced towards independence nor has it deactivated the State’s weapons for political repression. Despite this, the organization highlights the role of organized civil society in supporting those who have been retaliated against, thanks to citizen donations to the Caixa de Solidaritat that have made it possible to pay for fines and lawyers.

The denounced police officers could also be amnestied

In addition to the activists, the police officers denounced for their actions during the 1-O referendum could also be amnestied. Unlike pro-independence politicians, judges and courts are expected not to oppose the application of the amnesty law in these cases. For example, in Barcelona there are a large number of Spanish police officers prosecuted and awaiting trial, and the judge in charge is expected to make a decision on whether or not to apply the amnesty.
