A Devoted Celebration

This Good Friday, nearly 150 people took part in Solsona in the traditional morning Way of the Cross, a unique liturgical celebration that retraces the streets of the Solsonès capital on the occasion of Holy Week.

The procession took place in dense silence, interrupted only by the muttering and singing of prayers, between the steep and winding streets of the old town of a still asleep Solsona.

An Enduring Tradition

Years ago, the number of people attending the Way of the Cross had been slightly higher, but the tradition lives on and every year a few young faces are added.

The image of Saint Christ was carried outside the Cathedral, supported by four bearers and accompanied by the Bishop of Solsona and the parishioners.

An Unalterable Journey

This year’s itinerary remained as undisturbed as the tradition itself, with devotees lining Sant Miquel Street, Plaça Major, Llobera Street, Ribera Plaza, Sant Pere Plaza, Travessia de Sant Isidre, Plaça de Sant Isidre, Portal del Castell, Carrer Castell, Plaça de l’Ajuntament, Torre de les Hores, and Plaça Major again towards the Cathedral, where Christ returned to the place of worship.

Devotional Narration

The rector Lluís Ruiz, assisted by two readers, was in charge of narrating and leading the fourteen stations of Jesus’ way to the cross at each of the stops that the entourage made during the Way of the Cross.

Four bearers carried the Cross, following the devout tradition of this religious commemoration.
