Vox confirms Amaia Martínez Grisaleña as its candidate in Euskadi
The last party with representation in the Basque Parliament that was pending to make a statement has already made a decision. On the day the deadline to register candidacies for the April 21 elections closes, Vox has announced that Amaia Martínez Grisaleña, current spokesperson for the far-right formation, will be its candidate, as reported by ‘El Correo’ and they have confirmed then party sources.
Martínez Grisaleña, the Vox candidate in Álava
Martínez Grisaleña, born in 1968 in Vitoria, will be the Vox candidate for Álava. In the previous elections, Vox won the seat for Álava, where the figure of Martínez Grisaleña emerged, who had an arms business. The polls do not agree on whether Vox has a chance of retaining that seat, but in the 2023 provincial elections, Vox won a seat in the Parliament of Álava.
The trajectory of Vox in the Basque Parliament
During these four years, Vox has introduced its recentralizing and critical agenda with migration and climate change in the Basque Parliament. At the beginning of the legislature, a double sanitary cordon was proposed by other parties, but Vox appealed to Justice and obtained a ruling in favor in 2022. During this period, it has had to share a stay in the mixed group of the Autonomous Chamber with Ciudadanos, since the orange party broke its coalition with the PP.
Other Vox candidates in Euskadi
María Pérez will be the head of the list for Bizkaia and Andrés Paramio in Gipuzkoa. Gutiérrez, the previous candidate, will not repeat, and “personal” reasons are given for his absence on this occasion.
Candidates from other parties
The PNV will be headed by Imanol Pradales, EH Bildu by Pello Otxandiano, the PSE-EE by Eneko Andueza and the PP by Javier de Andrés. On the left, Elkarrekin Podemos Alianza Verde will have as a reference Miren Gorrotxategi and Sumar Alba García Martín. Ciudadanos has chosen not to attend.
