The Institute of Nahmánide Studies presents a new cycle of conferences
The Institut d’Estudis Nahmànides, in collaboration with the Ferrater Mora Chair of Contemporary Thought at the University of Girona, has started this week an exciting cycle of conferences entitled “Philosophers. The importance (or not) of being Jewish”. This cycle aims to highlight the intellectual and humanistic contributions of various thinkers who have influenced contemporary Western culture.
Exploring Jewish culture from a cultural and contextual perspective
The conference series aims to examine the work of these thinkers from a cultural and contextual perspective, rather than from a religious or community perspective. It is intended to debate whether it makes sense to relate his work to his socio-cultural origin linked to Judaism. The conferences will take place in the classroom of the Institute of Nahmanides Studies at 6.30 pm.
Outstanding lectures
The cycle of conferences will have the participation of outstanding experts in the field of philosophy and contemporary thought. Dr. Fina Birulés will open the series with a lecture entitled “Hannah Arendt and the hidden tradition”, in which she will analyze Arendt’s analysis of modern anti-Semitism and her vision of the figure of the outcast.
Other notable lectures include Lorena Fuster’s talk on Edith Stein, Maximiliano Fuentes’ talk on Rosa Luxemburg, Marta Segarra’s lecture on Judith Butler and Jewishness, and Íngrid Guardiola’s presentation on Susan Sontag’s critique of interpretation .
Access to conferences
The conferences will be recorded and will be available through the Digital Audio and Video Repository service of the University of Girona (DUGIMedia), for those interested who cannot attend in person.
