The Valls Catalanes Trail Running Challenge
The third edition of the Valls Catalanes Trail Running Challenge begins this Sunday, April 7, with the Fox Trail race in Sant Llorenç de la Muga. This race is one of nine events that are part of the cross-border mountain half-marathon race circuit. The participants will have to complete a route of 14 kilometers with 730 meters of positive gradient, which passes through unknown corners of the Sant Llorenç valleys. In addition, there is an alternative circuit of 7 kilometers. One of the main attractions of the race is the presence of Núria Picas, one of the world’s best Ultra Trail athletes.
Organization and support
The Fox Trail is organized by the sports and cultural association Arrelats a la Muga, with the support of several entities such as the town council, the Salines-Bassegoda Consortium, the Girona Provincial Council, the Alt Empordà County Council, the Society the Fraternity, the Society of Hunters of Sant Llorenç de la Muga and the ADF of Sant Llorenç. The start of the race will be at 9 am from Plaça Carles Camps. The first participant is expected to complete the course in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Last year, the winners in the male and female categories were Pep Pagès and Marili Benegas, respectively.
The Valls Catalanes Trail Running Challenge
The Valls Catalanes Trail Running Challenge is a cross-border sports project that aims to promote participation and cohesion in the territory through mountain races. This project was born as a result of the twinning of the Olla de Tapis race with the Trail des Salines de Céret. This year, the circuit includes several races in different municipalities of the Valls Catalanes. Some of the races that are part of the circuit are the Marche de la Tortuga, the Vallespir Skyrace, the Molló Trail, the Boucle du Point le Plus au Sud de France, the Cursa del Fau and the Trail des Trabucayres.
