Changes at the beginning of the school year
The Minister of Education, Anna Simó, has announced that the start of the school year will be on September 9, in response to the requests of the School Council and the educational unions. This change will allow teachers five additional days to prepare for the new school year.
Until now, the first day of school had to be before the Day, according to the conditions established by the Department of Education. However, former councilor Josep González Cambray had set the start of the course always on the fourth working day.
The PISA results
Councilor Simó has questioned the explanation that ratios and the lack of professionals are the causes of the 2022 PISA results, as suggested by a CCOO survey. According to Simó, there are currently more teachers than ever and work is being done to reduce the ratios. He also stressed that the effects of the improvement in segregation are not yet visible in the 2022 PISA results, but he is confident that the results of the 2023 skills tests will confirm this improvement.
The Minister has defended the Education policy of increasing the number of teachers and other education professionals and gradually reducing the ratios. However, he has recognized that there is a problem of spaces in schools and that this transition cannot be made overnight.
Budget support
In another matter, the councilor has asked the commons to support the budgets and has highlighted the importance of pushing ahead with the best Education budgets in history. Simó emphasized that President Pere Aragonès has stated that not everything depends on the Government and that there is a majority of deputies in Parliament in favor of the Hard Rock project.
On the other hand, the CUP has expressed its desire to actively influence the preparation of the 2024 budgets and has warned the Government that the ball is in its court. The deputies of the CUP have criticized last year’s accounts and have asked for a change of direction in economic policies.
