Spanish justice supports the creation of the Super League

The Super League has received new judicial support on its path towards the creation of the football competition proposed by Real Madrid and Barça. The Commercial Court number 17 of Madrid has upheld the lawsuit filed by the European Super League Company SL (ESLC), considering that FIFA and UEFA have exercised an ‘abuse of power’ by trying to prevent the football tournament. According to the ruling, the two organizations have violated articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) by hindering free competition in the market.

Implications of the judicial resolution

The judicial resolution establishes that FIFA and UEFA must ‘cease their anti-competitive conduct’ and immediately withdraw the effects of said actions. Furthermore, during the trial, LaLiga and UEFA admitted that the new competition would harm them financially, which reinforces the importance of this ruling for the Super League.

Future perspectives

This judicial endorsement represents a significant step for the Super League, but FIFA and UEFA are likely to respond to this decision. Although the Spanish justice system has taken a stand in favor of the creators of the new football competition, the outcome of this conflict has yet to be determined. This issue is likely to continue generating controversy in the public and legal spheres.
