Budgets of the Generalitat: a step forward

The vice president of the Government, Laura Vilagrà, was completely convinced this Tuesday, after the agreement with the PSC, that the budgets of the Generalitat will go ahead with the support of other parliamentary groups. The deputies of ERC and the socialists have 66 seats, less than those necessary to approve the accounts in Parliament, so the support of another opposition group is needed. Vilagrà has celebrated the pact, which will be signed this afternoon by President Pere Aragonès and Salvador Illa at the Palau de la Generalitat, and she has been optimistic about the possibility of reaching agreements with other parties.

Vilagrà has highlighted that these are the “highest and most expansive budgets in history”, aimed at improving education, health and citizen security. The Government is convinced that these budgets are beneficial for the citizens of Catalonia and hopes to have broad support for their approval.

Parliamentary processing and negotiations

President Aragonès has called an extraordinary executive council for tomorrow with the objective of approving the budgets and beginning their parliamentary processing. Although there are not enough votes for its approval in Parliament, Vilagrà recalled that it is common for the Government to approve budgets before closing agreements with the rest of the parties. During the negotiation process, amendments and proposals from other political groups may be incorporated.

The vice president of the Government has mentioned that they are in advanced conversations with several groups, such as En Comú Podem, the CUP and Junts per Catalunya, to achieve broad support. Although a definitive date has not been established for the approval of the budgets in Parliament, it is expected that this will occur in the shortest possible time.

The Hard Rock project and other aspects

Vilagrà has highlighted that these budgets do not allocate funds to the Hard Rock project, which is in the urban planning process phase. However, the agreement with the PSC contemplates the monitoring of non-compliance with the 2023 pact in relation to this macroproject. The commons are opposed to this recreational center, so it is hoped that a solution will be found that allows the approval of the budgets with the support of Jéssica Albiach.
