BARCELONA, March 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister for Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda, David Mascort, was pleased to respond to the farmers’ demand for help in this Thursday’s meeting with the Union of Farmers, Young Farmers and Ranchers of Catalonia (Jarc ), Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia (FCAC) and the Revolta Pagesa platform.
According to Maskort, this meeting has marked a turning point, since for the first time all the organizations have sat at the same table to work together on the resolution of the problems affecting the agricultural sector.
Reorganization of the supply area of the Catalan Water Agency
In this meeting, the Generalitat has agreed that a reorganization of the supply area of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) will be carried out and the possibility of changing the name of the Ministry to better reflect the concepts will be studied of agriculture, livestock and fishing, although the reference to climate action will remain.
Councilor Mascort wanted to make it clear that the director of the ACA, Samuel Reyes, has not taken any decision that has affected farmers, since he has been in office for two and a half years and has only applied the established policies.
Commitment to the primary sector
Mascort has pledged to take measures to ensure the supply of water for crops and trees, as well as to show more sensitivity in drought policies that affect farmers. It has also announced that it will propose to include more representatives of the primary sector in the ACA council.
Joint proposal for the name change of the Ministry
Regarding the change of the Ministry’s name, Mascort explained that a joint proposal will be presented between the parties with representation in Parliament. This proposal will be debated in next week’s monographic plenary after being presented to the corresponding platforms.
This name change is a demand from Catalan farmers, ranchers and fishermen in order for the Generalitat to show its commitment to the primary sector, which for a long time has felt despised by society.
