Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo face off in a heated control session
The control session in the Congress of Deputies has been marked by a confrontation between Pedro Sánchez, president of the Spanish government, and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the opposition. The two political leaders have accused each other of being complicit in corruption in relation to the Koldo case and the brother of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, for alleged illicit enrichment through the purchase and sale of masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
A historic confrontation
This was the first encounter in the lower house between the president of the Spanish government and the head of the opposition since the outbreak of the case of the former adviser of José Luis Ábalos. The two political leaders have clashed dialectically, showing mutual accusations and recriminations.
Accusations of corruption
Alberto Núñez Feijóo has accused Pedro Sánchez of knowing about the Koldo case for three years and covering up corruption. In addition, he has hinted that Sánchez is afraid of the information in the possession of José Luis Ábalos, a former minister who has recently left the PSOE and joined the Mixed Group.
For his part, Pedro Sánchez has responded by accusing Núñez Feijóo of wanting to derive political income from corruption. He has defended transparency and the assumption of political responsibilities by his government in cases of alleged corruption.
A joc of ‘and you more’
During the control session, Pedro Sánchez recalled that Núñez Feijóo is leader of the PP because the party removed Pablo Casado after denouncing a case of corruption by Mrs. Ayuso. This has caused Sánchez to accuse Núñez Feijóo of covering up corruption and being in decay.
An ending without agreement
The control session in the Congress of Deputies ended without an agreement between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Accusations and confrontations have marked the meeting, making it clear that the political tension between the two political leaders continues.
