A plot of illicit enrichment
One of the phrases that emerges from the wiretapping ordered by the Civil Guard in the investigation into the alleged plot of illicit enrichment through the purchase of masks with Koldo García, former advisor to former minister José Luis Ábalos, in center, is: “I will not leave you a penny, nor will I exchange it for bills in hand.”
Impact and consequences
The case has had a strong impact within the PSOE, as it involves the figure of the main accused, who was of the utmost confidence of Ábalos, in turn Pedro Sánchez’s right-hand man for years in the party.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor maintains that García expedited procedures with the Ministry of Transport in the recruitment during the pandemic for the sale of masks, facilitating the awarding processes of sanitary material to the company Soluciones de Gestión.
Accusations and plot details
The Prosecutor’s Office considers that there are enough indications to conclude that there is a “criminal organization” that was dedicated to “achieving the award” of contracts, with payments obtained by García “to mediate and achieve” these awards.
Between 2020 and 2022, García became the owner of assets whose value could reach a total figure of 1.5 million euros, with acquisitions occurring just five months after the public awards in Management solutions.
Conclusions
Thus, the case of the masks has highlighted an alleged case of illicit enrichment and corruption that has had a significant impact within the PSOE and has generated accusations of being part of a criminal organization to secure contract awards.
