ERC pressures Yolanda Díaz to approve the Catalan budgets

The commons are worried about ERC’s pressure on the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, to intercede in the negotiations to approve the Catalan budgets, which have been stuck for weeks because of the Hard Rock project. The president of the parliamentary group of Catalunya En Comú, Jéssica Albiach, has hinted that the republicans have called the vice-president of the Spanish government to force them to give up overturning the macrocasino under the threat of not approving the Spanish budgets. Albiach has stated that they are negotiated with, but not blackmailed. These statements were made in an interview with RTVE 24 hours before the Parliament debates the amendments in their entirety that have been submitted by all the opposition parties except the PSC.

ERC does not guarantee its support for Spanish budgets

The leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, already stated a few days ago that the Republicans do not guarantee their support for the accounts prepared by the Spanish government. Junqueras said that they will make the decisions that are best for society and that they will see what the proposal is. This resistance of ERC, together with the tough negotiations with Junts to see who gets the most concessions in Madrid, puts the first budgets of the legislature in jeopardy.

Catalan budgets must be decided in Catalonia

Jéssica Albiach has insisted that the Catalan budgets must be decided in Catalonia and has shown concern about the subaltern attitude of ERC to the PSC. Albiach has stated that the Government must take the decision to stop the Hard Rock project and that if Pere Aragonès does not want to accept this demand, he can always talk to Junts to approve the budgets. Albiach recalled that the president of the Generalitat has known for months that his party will not approve the budgets while the planning process for the casino continues. Nevertheless, Albiach is confident that Yolanda Díaz will not let herself be pressured by ERC and that she knows perfectly well the position of Catalunya En Comú on Hard Rock.

Commons have no incentive to approve budgets

The commons, who see more and more away from entering the government of the Barcelona City Council, have no incentive to give budgets to Pere Aragonès a year before the parliamentary elections. Jéssica Albiach has assured that if the budgets end up being extended, they will vote in favor of credit extensions to fulfill the commitments made with teachers, health workers and social agents. However, he has warned that the current accounts are not very ambitious (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).
