Neus Truyol, spokesperson for the formation, considers that the mayor of Palma acts without transparency or citizen participation
The spokeswoman for MÉS for Palma, Neus Truyol, has requested the appearance of the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, to report on the repercussions of the possible expansion of Palma airport. The spokeswoman stated that “it is regrettable that the mayor of Palma meets with AENA officials without listening to the concerns and interests of the public. This meeting, which took place in Madrid and of which we know nothing, shows once again that relevant decisions, when the PP rules, are made behind closed doors, without transparency or citizen participation.
Truyol denounces that AENA enriches itself at the expense of ignoring Palmesans
“Since forever, AENA has become rich at the expense of ignoring the needs and concerns of Palmesans. We must face the reality that our lives are being harmed by the consequences of uncontrolled airport operation. AENA should assume its responsibility and, instead, it finds accomplices both in the Palma City Council and in the Ministry of Transport who join the overcrowding, the noise and the destruction of nature”, explained Truyol.
Truyol affirms that the economic benefits are above the needs of the people of Palmes
“For now, it is clear that the great economic benefits are above the needs of the people of Palmes. These benefits go away, but the economic, social and environmental cost remains here. The airport is the main gateway to the mass tourism that we Mallorcans suffer, and especially the neighborhoods of Palma, and it seems that Mayor Martínez and the Minister of Transport agree with this suffering”, he says.
Truyol demands the bailiff to give explanations and not to lock himself in his office
“We hope that for once the mayor will show his face and explain himself, we are beginning to be fed up with his negligence and his silence. Mayor Martínez must fulfill one of his main functions and give explanations. We hope that fear will not overcome him again and that he will not hide in his office again”, claimed the councillor.
Truyol sends a message to the citizens of Palma: “Our future and that of future generations depend on the actions we take today”
Despite everything, Truyol wanted to send a message to the citizens of Palma: “Our future and that of future generations depend on the actions we take today. For this reason, from MÉS for Palma we have a city project that is committed to defending the economic, social and environmental interests of citizens. A Palma that supports measures that make coexistence between residents and visitors easier; that makes life easier for our people through a more sustainable city; to bet on public transport that helps to clean the air we breathe and that makes the people of Palmes the protagonists of the political life of this city, instead of the mass tourism industry”.
