A New Chapter for Rodalies
Rodalies is the undisputed protagonist of this Monday, February 19. The morning has been marked by service cuts due to a copper theft, which has generated problems on the Rodalies R3 line. However, this setback has not prevented an important meeting between the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Spanish government from taking place at the headquarters of the Department of Territory in Barcelona. The objective of this meeting is to create a political commission for the transfer of Cercanías.
What is the purpose of the political commission?
The commission will have the responsibility of carrying out political, institutional and governmental monitoring of the transfer process of Rodalies from the Spanish State to the Catalan Government. In addition, working groups will be established in charge of developing aspects related to this transfer. According to the Regional Minister of the Generalitat, Ester Capella, these working groups will be essential to carry out the constitution of the public company, the infrastructure and the financing necessary for the operation of Rodalies Cataluña.
The Rodalies transfer agreement
The transfer of Rodalies was agreed by the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC). This agreement involves the comprehensive transfer of Rodalies and the creation of a new company in which both administrations will participate. Once the transfer is completed, Rodalies Cataluña will be in charge of providing the service, with a majority participation of the Generalitat.
According to the agreement, the Ministry will transfer to the Generalitat the ownership of the infrastructures in which the services are the responsibility of the Generalitat. The transfer of routes that do not affect traffic with other autonomous or international communities, and that do not include freight traffic, will be valued.
A promising future
The transfer of Rodalies represents a new chapter in Spanish railway transport. With the active participation of the Generalitat of Catalonia, it is expected that the quality and efficiency of the commuter service in the region will be improved. In addition, this transfer will allow greater autonomy in decision-making and management of resources related to Rodalies.
Rodalies is a fundamental part of the transport system in Spain, and its transfer to the Generalitat of Catalonia is an important step towards greater integration and development of public transport in the region. It is expected that this new stage of Rodalies will contribute to improving the user experience and promoting sustainable mobility in Catalonia.
